“Giorgi had us at Gergeti by nine, before a single coach arrived. On the way back he stopped at a roadside bakery in Pasanauri and we ate khachapuri still hot from the oven. Best day of our trip.”
Hanna, Rotterdam · on Kazbegi and Gergeti Trinity Church
“Nino's family cellar was the highlight. We came home with two bottles of amber wine and a recipe for pkhali.”
Daniel, Melbourne · on Kakheti qvevri wine day
“The Abano Pass is terrifying and Levan made it feel routine. Tusheti was worth every bump.”

Guests ask for them by name

Kvali is eleven people in Tbilisi: guides, drivers and one person who answers WhatsApp. We run day trips from the capital, multi-day routes into the High Caucasus, and wine days in Kakheti with families who still make wine in clay qvevri buried underground.

Kvali (კვალი) means “trace” or “trail” in Georgian. We keep groups small, leave early, and stop where the view or the bread is good.

  • Nino

    Guide, Kakheti and Tbilisi

Grew up in Telavi. Studied winemaking in Tbilisi and knows which cellar door to knock on.

  • Giorgi

    Mountain guide, Kazbegi and Svaneti

Certified mountain guide. Knows when to push on for the view and when to turn back.

  • Levan

    4x4 driver, Tusheti

Has driven the Abano Pass every summer for twelve years. Calm on the hairpins, loud at the supra.

Planning a trip to Georgia

Citizens of more than 90 countries, including the EU, UK, US, Canada and Australia, can stay in Georgia visa-free for up to one year. Other nationalities can usually apply for an e-visa online. Check the official Georgian e-visa portal before you book flights.

May to June and September to October suit most trips. July and August are best for high mountains like Tusheti and Svaneti treks. Late September to October is rtveli, the grape harvest, in Kakheti.

Usually yes, but the Jvari Pass on the Georgian Military Road can close for a day or more after heavy snow. If it closes on your date, we move you to another day or switch to a Kakheti trip.

The Georgian lari (GEL, ₾). Cards are accepted widely in Tbilisi and Batumi. Carry cash in the mountains, where guesthouses and small cafés often do not take cards.

Georgian, with its own alphabet. Many older Georgians speak Russian, and younger people in cities often speak English. All Kvali guides speak English.

Restaurants usually add a 10 to 15% service charge to the bill. For guides and drivers, tipping is appreciated but never expected.
