Kvali started in 2018 with one minivan and a spreadsheet of mountain passes. We still run every trip ourselves.
How we started
Kvali began when two friends, a mountain guide and a winemaker's daughter, kept getting asked by friends of friends to show them the Georgia beyond the old town. They bought a minivan and started driving.
We've grown to eleven: guides, drivers, and Tamar, who answers WhatsApp. We don't subcontract trips to other companies, so the person who plans your day is someone we work with every week.

We're on the road before the coach tours, so you reach the viewpoints and churches while they're quiet.

Grew up in Telavi. Studied winemaking in Tbilisi and knows which cellar door to knock on.

Mountain guide, Kazbegi and Svaneti
Certified mountain guide. Knows when to push on for the view and when to turn back.

4x4 driver, Tusheti
Has driven the Abano Pass every summer for twelve years. Calm on the hairpins, loud at the supra.

Architecture student who knows the stories behind Sololaki's front doors, and which bakery has bread at 16:00.

From Mestia. Drives the Enguri gorge road as if it were a street in his village, because it is.

Why Kvali
Kvali (კვალი) means “trace” or “trail” in Georgian. Our mark is a Svan tower, the stone defence towers of Upper Svaneti, with a dotted trail leading to its door.
